Formed in 1971 as an apartment investment firm, Moran & Company has evolved into a premier, multifamily transaction services firm. We focus all of our energies on the multifamily asset class and on mixed-use properties with significant residential components.
Since our inception, Moran & Company’s principals have acted as owners, developers, property and asset managers and as transaction specialists in the sale and recapitalization of apartments - for our own account, as well as the account of our clients.
As owners. From 1971-1994, Moran & Company raised the equity and arranged the debt for the development of 14,000 apartments. Our principals acted as general partners and co-investors in virtually all of those ventures. Today, Moran & Company’s principals own a portfolio of approximately 7,400 apartments.
As property and asset managers. In 1981, to monitor and enhance the performance of our investments, we hired asset management personnel and formed a property management company. RMK Management Corporation, our affiliated property management company, manages approximately 7,000 units and asset manages 3,000 units in the Midwest, either for its own account or for various third parties.
As transaction specialists. In 1994, one of Moran’s institutional investors retained Moran & Company to represent it in the disposition of several apartment properties in Southern California. From these successful experiences, Moran’s third party, transaction services business was born.
As developers. Finally, in 1999, Moran formed M&R Development to develop new, luxury multifamily communities in the Chicago metropolitan area.
In order to service our clientele in most of the large investment markets, we opened six transaction services offices serving the Pacific Northwest (Seattle), California (Irvine), Southwest (Dallas), Mountain States (Denver), Midwest (Chicago) and East Coast (Washington, DC) regions. Since 1994, Moran & Company has closed nearly $11 billion in sales across the country. A summary of the properties sold or recapitalized by Moran & Company is included in the Transaction Experience section.
