Thomas F. Moran is Moran & Company’s chairman. He has a legal, tax accounting and investment banking background. Between 1971 and 1990, Moran implemented joint ventures, new construction of 14,000 apartment units with equity and debt exceeding $1,000,000,000. In 1981, RMK Management Company was formed and currently manages over 6,900 apartment units in Chicago and Minneapolis. Also, in 1999, M&R Development, L.L.C. was formed. Since inception, M&R has participated in the development of over 3,100 luxury apartment units in the Chicago area, with a 221-unit high-rise currently under construction in Downtown Chicago, for a total estimated cost of $471,000,000. During the 1979-1982 and 1991-1994 recessions, Moran refinanced or recapitalized 33 partnerships with original capitalization of $729,300,000 with existing lenders and partners. During recessionary periods, Moran has never lost a property and has been successful in meeting all of its obligations with its lenders and partners.
In 1995, Moran and Mary Ann King commenced the brokerage operation which sells apartment projects, and through 2008, has closed approximately 300 transactions valued at $11,000,000,000. Today, Moran specializes not only in the sale of apartment properties through its 7 regional offices, but is also a developer (Chicago), property manager and asset manager responsible for rehab, refinancing and sale recommendations.
